Dimensions Variable
When I pick up my camera, I don’t always have a clear purpose in mind. As I begin to shoot, the shutter enunciating with a satisfying clack, my images become a reflection of my innermost feelings or thoughts. Art allows me to create a tangible representation of an emotion, perception, or idea that I cannot justly express with my voice alone. I find myself noticing beauty and intrigue in random or surprising places. Beauty, defiance, vulnerability, and metamorphosis inspire me. Living in a dynamic world, an unused roll of film represents a neutral expanse through which my ideas can flow. My art becomes an intermediary between the viewer and myself.
My CAS Photography Thesis focuses on memory and the ability of time and experience to distort the perception of a distinct moment. I’ve gone through hundreds of images shot over the past four years, choosing a handful to edit in order to give a newly tangible form to memories that have transformed over time. Taking risks in this process has allowed me to stretch and grow as an artist.
