Looking inward to find something needing “repair”, this project blossomed. Communication and familial dynamics that felt broken manifested into a video of a family having dinner in uncomfortable silence. I wanted to display this discomfort in subtle ways for the audience to feel themselves; the uneven time mapping, the low resolution that exemplifies a lack of clarity and the utter silence. I chose to use an iPhone video format because it allowed me to express more information without being overt or taking away from the piece itself. This is what is broken. This is what needs “repair.”
