Throughout high school, I have created unfinished pieces centered around the female figure and expression. My captivation for the subject stems from my exploration and definition of self through personal and societal factors. The idea of defining or identifying oneself is interesting to me because often through this reflection our supposed “free will” is glaringly inaccessible; who we are appears a matter of genetics and external factors. And, societal pressures seem to me to be more and more “infectious” and calculated. In my work, I abstractly explore the female frame, considering wherein culture molds the corporeal form.
