Everyone looks forward to summer for different reasons. Some want a break from school or work, just to take those warmer months to relax and take a much needed break. For me, I look forward to spending time with my family, most of whom I am not able to see until these months because of the fact that my family is spread across the world. I have cousins in Tahiti, Indonesia, Israel, France and I could go on. Name a country I most likely have a relative there but even with all that distance, I never felt any separation from them because every year without fail my dad's side of the family would get together to go on a trip. These would always be the highlight of my year and I would spend the months leading up to the trip, crossing off the days. Unfortunately because of Covid this year was one of maybe two years that I was not able to see my family. So for my project I decided that I wanted to recreate a photograph that was taken of me and my cousins to give myself some much needed nostalgia of regular life.

The project is a total of two pieces each recreating the same photo but in different ways. The first of the two is titled A Perfect Memory and it is meant to be an almost exact replica of the photograph, with the main differences being more exaggerated colors and a slight change of the scene to give it a better flow for the eye. I wanted to make this piece an almost exact replica to give the illusion of seeing the scene for the first time as though you are there. The second piece is titled A Different Observation and although it too is almost an exact replica of the scene the key differences are the color changes. For this piece I decided to invert the colors to give the illusion of seeing the piece through a memory, where you aren’t really sure what is what and how the memory went exactly.
